EarthKosher Data Policy
February 2024
EarthKosher participates in the UKD (Universal Kosher Database).
The UKD is a network of common Kosher certification agencies including the Star-K, COR (Toronto), KLBD (London), Kosher Check (Canada), KVH Kosher and others.
This streamlines the Kosher certification process by reducing paperwork. This is accomplished by sharing certain data that our customers would already typically share upon request with other Kosher certification agencies.
Part A:
The shared data is limited to essential information that would normally appear on a copy of your EarthKosher Kosher Certificate and would help other clients and Kosher certification agencies confirm your products are still under Kosher certification. The shared data is:
- Company name
- Product name
- Product’s unique UKD # (analogous to an ID #)
- Expiration date of the EarthKosher Kosher Certificate
- Status/Category of Product (i.e. Dairy, non-Dairy, Meat, Fish etc)
In exchange for participating in the program, other Kosher certification agencies share their own Kosher certificates with EarthKosher. Thus, if ingredients listed on your Schedule A (Approved Ingredient List) are certified Kosher by a participating Kosher certification agency, their product information and status will automatically update each year on your end thanks to our network membership. (You must still upload this information onto your Schedule A for approval the first time you would like to begin using a particular ingredient).
Again, this sharing is restricted to the basic information necessary. Your general list of ingredients, formulas or any other company information is never shared with any third party under any circumstances. The only information shared as part of the UKD Network is selected information that already appears on your Kosher certificate issued by EarthKosher.
You may opt out of sharing any data on the UKD in full. Alternatively, you may choose to exclude specific products that may be particularly confidential from being shared on the UKD but participate for your other products. To opt out or make customized selections, please contact submissions@earthkosher.com
If you opt out in full, you will not benefit from the data shared by other Kosher agencies and your own Schedule A will not auto-update. If you choose to opt out of Part A, you will automatically be opted out of Part B below as well.
Part B: Additional Data Sharing Option
Some participating Kosher certification agencies offer a password-protected searchable product database for their clients. This enables them to find pre-approved Kosher ingredients needed to manufacture Kosher certified products. Occasionally, this may lead to new business opportunities when other companies find your Kosher certified products in their search results.
The only information another company would find in their search results would include:
- Company name
- Product Name
- Product’s UKD #
- Expiration date of Kosher Certificate
- Status/Category of Product (i.e. Dairy, non-Dairy, Meat, Fish etc)
Again, this is limited to information that would already appear on your EarthKosher Kosher Certificate.
You can choose to opt out of this additional data sharing. To do so, please contact submissions@earthkosher.com
For clarification purposes, the following information is never shared under any circumstances:
- Product Formulas
- Ingredients used
- Vendors/Suppliers
- Proprietary information
- Information regarding Private Label clients
- Information on your co-packers/facilities
